Eyebrow Transplant: Everything You Need to Know

An FUE eyebrow transplant is the only permanent solution for thin, sparse, or missing eyebrows. Here's everything patients need to know before making a decision.

Full, well-defined eyebrows frame the face and play a major role in how we look and express ourselves. For people who have lost eyebrow hair — whether from over-plucking, medical conditions, genetics, or scarring — the impact on confidence can be significant. Makeup and microblading offer temporary fixes, but there is only one permanent solution: an eyebrow transplant.

At ReGrow Medical, we perform FUE eyebrow transplants with the same precision and care we bring to scalp hair restoration. Here's everything you need to know.

What Is an Eyebrow Transplant?

An eyebrow hair transplant is a surgical procedure that uses the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique to harvest individual hair follicles — typically from the back of the scalp — and transplant them into the eyebrow area. Because the transplanted follicles are your own hair, the results are completely natural-looking and permanent.

The procedure can restore eyebrows that are sparse, patchy, or completely absent. It can also reshape or redefine eyebrows that have an undesirable natural pattern.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Eyebrow Restoration?

You may be a strong candidate for an eyebrow transplant if you have experienced eyebrow thinning or loss due to any of the following: years of over-plucking or waxing that has permanently damaged follicles; medical conditions such as alopecia areata, thyroid disorders, or trichotillomania; chemotherapy or radiation therapy; scarring from burns, injuries, or previous surgeries; or simply genetics — some people are born with naturally thin or sparse eyebrows.

The best candidates have adequate donor hair at the back of the scalp and realistic expectations about the results. A consultation with our team will confirm whether you're a good candidate and how many grafts you'll need.

How Is the Eyebrow FUE Procedure Performed?

The eyebrow transplant procedure is performed under local anesthesia, so you'll be comfortable throughout. The process begins with a careful design phase: our surgeon will work with you to map out the ideal eyebrow shape, taking into account your facial structure, natural brow remnants, and personal preferences.

Individual hair follicles are then harvested from the donor area using the FUE technique — a tiny punch tool that leaves no linear scar. These follicles are carefully implanted into the eyebrow area at very precise angles (typically 10–15 degrees) to mimic the natural, flat growth direction of eyebrow hair. This is one of the most technically demanding aspects of eyebrow restoration, and it's why choosing an experienced surgeon matters so much.

The procedure typically takes three to five hours, depending on the number of grafts needed. Most eyebrow transplants require between 150 and 400 grafts per eyebrow.

What Does Eyebrow Transplant Recovery Look Like?

Recovery from an eyebrow hair transplant is generally mild. In the first few days, you may notice some redness and small scabs around the transplanted follicles. These resolve within one to two weeks. As with scalp FUE, you'll experience a shedding phase around weeks two to four — the transplanted hairs fall out temporarily before new growth begins.

New eyebrow hairs typically begin to emerge around three to four months after the procedure. Full results are visible at the 9–12 month mark. One important note: because the transplanted hair comes from the scalp, it will initially grow faster than natural eyebrow hair. Most patients need to trim their eyebrows regularly until the hair adapts to its new environment — which it does over time.

How Long Do Eyebrow Transplant Results Last?

The results of an FUE eyebrow transplant are considered permanent. Because the transplanted follicles are taken from areas of the scalp that are genetically resistant to hair loss, they retain those same characteristics in their new location. Once the transplanted hairs have fully grown in, they will continue to grow for the rest of your life.

This is what sets an eyebrow transplant apart from microblading, tattooing, or other cosmetic solutions — those require regular touch-ups, while a transplant is a one-time procedure with lasting results.

Is an Eyebrow Transplant Right for You?

If you've been relying on pencils, powders, or microblading to fill in your brows every day, an eyebrow transplant may be the permanent solution you've been looking for. The procedure is safe, minimally invasive, and produces results that are indistinguishable from natural eyebrows.

At ReGrow Medical, our team has extensive experience in eyebrow restoration and will guide you through every step of the process. Schedule your free consultation to find out if an eyebrow transplant is right for you.
